Manchester United Transfer News: January Transfer Deal Sheet

The Patrick Dorgu news was a welcome sight for Manchester United fans yesterday, who may have been beginning to think a new signing to add some fuel to a dwindling fire was extremely unlikely within this window. The financial situation at the club is dire, and the mood is somber, but with Antony joining Real Betis on loan and potential departures for Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, a deal for Dorgu is possible but not done yet.

Left-wing back is of course a priority position for the club, with Ruben Amorim desperate to get a player in that position in before the deadline closes next week. Milos Kerkez and Nuno Mendes are two players the club admires hugely, but the financials of a deal for both are incredibly difficult this month, meaning the pursuit of a player like Dorgu makes sense. Dorgu is one of the players high up on the list at the club, with others such as Rayan Ait-Nouri featuring too. Bradley Locko was a player the club admired previously under Erik ten Hag, but an Achilles injury that has forced him to miss the last number of months meant a deal for the highly rated Frenchman became unlikely.

Dorgu has interest from Napoli within the Serie A, but with his agent being in Manchester yesterday, it looks as if the deal is moving in the right direction at this moment in time.

Possible Additions Elsewhere For United?

There are no clear indications of what could happen in the coming days regarding Alejandro Garnacho’s future, with interest rising from Napoli and Chelsea. In regards to a replacement, Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive news on Dorgeles Nene still holds true, but there are other players the club could target to try and fill the hole in the attacking positions that could be left by the departure of the Argentine. AttackingFootball sources understand that the club has been in talks with players from the Brazilian league in recent months, and a move for a player from that region could be something to closely monitor in the final days of the transfer window and in the coming months.

Marcus Rashford is still in discussions with a number of clubs regarding his own future at the club, but briefs yesterday suggested there is still a route back into the fold for the academy graduate, who is said to have no issues with Ruben Amorim, and is ready to return to the team as soon as he gets the chance, should a move away not be agreed in the meantime.

Centre-Back Unlikely:

United are unlikely to move for a defender this month, with that position anticipated to be one of the areas that needs to be addressed the least. If they were to move, Ousmane Diomande is a player the club admires, as well as of course the well-documented interest in Jarrad Branthwaite. Mohamed Simikan was of previous interest before his move to Al Nassr, and Castello Lukeba is someone the club has watched in the past. A deal for any of those players within this window would prove too expensive, however.

Ederson from Atalanta is another player who is admired internally at Manchester United. A deal for the Brazilian would be expensive, costing around £50 million, and Atalanta are unlikely to sell during a title race as Gianpero Gasperini’s side fight for the Serie A title with Napoli and Inter Milan.

Possible Departures?

Elsewhere, the only other likely departures at the club are Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. News has gone quiet on both, but in the final days of the window, things could absolutely change. United remain slightly short in midfield if one of those players is to depart, although Toby Collyer is anticipated to remain as part of the squad for the rest of the season.

In regards to Chelsea’s interest in Alejandro Garnacho, there have been suggestions of a possible swap deal, but there is unlikely to be many players from Chelsea United could afford in regards to wages. Joao Felix is someone who has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge, but with the club looking to cut down on the high wages culture at United, Felix is unlikely to be someone they pursue. Although. United did sign two Jorge Mendes clients in the summer in Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte, so a move cannot be completely ruled out just yet.

United were previously linked to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, which could be an interesting one, but as of now there have been no indications the club are tempted to take a Chelsea player back on loan as part of any potential deal for Garnacho.

Ruben Amorim needs signings if he is to implement his system on this team. The club signed him to establish his authority on the team and uphold his philosophy and beliefs. Despite the current financial constraints, they must equip him with the necessary tools for success in the upcoming months. Patrick Dorgu is a positive step in the right direction, and here’s hoping there are one or two more before the end of the window.
