Manchester United Should Stand Firm On Scott McTominay Valuation
INEOS are working on trying to reshape the reputation of Manchester United football club when it comes to their business in the transfer market, and they need to further rubberstamp their new intentions with Scott McTominay. The midfielder, who scored 10 goals in all competitions for his club last season, is worth at least £40 million, and the club cannot and should not pander to the current bids being sent their way from Fulham and Galatasaray.
The sale of Emile Smith Rowe, as talented as a player as the former Arsenal man is, for a fee of £34 million should be enough for United to close up shop on any bids below that fee for McTominay. The 27-year-old would likely have no issue signing a new deal at United despite his contract running out next season, which puts INEOS in a comfortable position when it comes to negotiations.
United Need To Stand Firm On McTominay:
This is a player who was among the top goal scorers in the European qualifying campaign for his nation, with over 170 appearances in the Premier League for one of the biggest clubs in the world. INEOS cannot make the same mistake as the previous regime, which sold Fred for just €10 million to Fenerbache last summer despite the Brazilian being worth significantly more at the time.
It’s time for the club to become bullish in their valuations for players. The buying club can either pay up or walk away, especially when the subject in question is a valuable squad player like Scott McTominay. He’s the type of character needed in a title winning side, even if his role is similar to the one he played last season, which arguably saw United finish a lot higher up the table than they would have without him.
United’s midfield is also a position they lack depth in, so selling a player like McTominay for a low fee makes zero sense. Manuel Ugarte looks to be a deal United could finalise in the coming days, but even still, the more likely candidates to leave the club are likely to be the older options in the midfield, with Christian Eriksen speaking in the past about his desire for first-team football.
Whatever happens with McTominay this summer, United needs to make sure it makes sense from a financial point of view if they are to become the kings of the market again.
