Manchester United Move Towards Mazraoui Deal As Wan-Bissaka Prepares For West Ham
Manchester United are now closing in on a third signing of the summer transfer window, with Noussair Mazraoui of Bayern Munich expected to be the next player through the door. Bayern rejected a joint offer for Matthijs De Ligt and Mazraoui yesterday, but talks have continued since then between the two clubs. The sticking point of the deal remains the fee the German club wants for De Ligt, with a deal for Moroccan full-back Mazraoui seen as the easier of the two.
United have been waiting for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to complete his move to West Ham before completing the deal for the Munich defender. Bissaka to the Hammers is now advanced, with a deal fully expected to be done in the coming days. Erik ten Hag wants his two former Ajax players in the squad for the Community Shield game against Manchester City, as he aims to beat Pep Guardiola at Wembley two games in a row.
Mazraoui To United Moves Closer:
Matthijs De Ligt returned to Bayern training yesterday, but the decision for the Dutchman to return has no bearing on whether he joins the Red’s. The 24-year-old is waiting for Manchester United and has prioritised a move to rejoin his former manager since the interest became concrete last month. Ten Hag was in charge of both players for their run to the Champions League final in 2019, which is viewed as the best period of their careers.
A deal for Manuel Ugarte is also still something United are pursuing, although PSG are currently holding out for around £50m, which is a fee United are not willing to pay. Alternatives in midfield have been looked at, with Joey Veerman from PSG being someone of interest to the club at this time. Youssouf Fofana has been a target, but AC Milan are currently expected to win that race.
Mazraoui is moving closer, and he’s expected to become a United player before the end of next week.
