Three Liverpool Attackers Set for Summer Clearout As Reds Gear Up for the Transfer Window

Three Liverpool attackers are set to be up for sale in the forthcoming transfer window, at least according to Anfield Watch.

The report suggests that Arne Slot has grown frustrated with Luis Diaz, Darwin Núñez, and Diogo Jota this season. If all three were to leave, it would mark a major overhaul for the Reds forward department.

With Mohamed Salah’s future uncertain and Federico Chiesa still yet to make an impact, this would leave Cody Gakpo as the only guaranteed forward to be at Liverpool come July.

Why Would Liverpool Sell These Attackers?

If the suggestion is that Slot has grown frustrated with the trio, the likelihood is that it is for a lot of different reasons.

When it comes to Diogo Jota, his injury record is likely a cause for concern for the Merseyside club, and with the Portuguese star still just 28-years-old, it could be the perfect time to cash in.

The No. 20 is widely regarded as one of the best finishers in the Premier League, but his lack of availability has certainly been an issue. The former Wolves man would still likely bring in a hefty fee due to his reputation.

According to the Anfield Watch, Jota was of keen interest to Arsenal in the summer, who are desperate for a goalscoring talisman. Selling to a rival would not be ideal, but if the right fee comes in, the club will likely accept it.

Darwin Núñez has been an enigmatic man at Anfield. While his performances in front of goal leave a lot to be desired, he has become sort of a cult hero due to his never-ending effort on the pitch. However, it is that inconsistent and erratic finishing that is likely the cause of Slot’s frustration. The Uruguayan attracted interest from Saudi Arabia in January, and a bid could come in the summer.

Luis Diaz has been shifted from his natural left wing position to the centre-forward this season, but his output has been worrying. The Colombian started the season strong, with five goals in the opening five, but it appears this was simply a purple patch. He has since only added 3 Premier League goals in the last 17 appearances.

Similar to Jota, the Colombian’s age and reputation mean a large fee isn’t out of the question for the No. 7.

Who Could Liverpool Add to Their Side?

Anthony Gordon has been a well-known target for the Reds, with a transfer saga playing out behind the scenes during EURO 2024. The Englishman has recently signed a new deal, so prying him away from Newcastle could be a much harder task now.

A reported £75m deal was accepted by the Northern club as they were racing to align with the PSR deadline. This would have seen Joe Gomez move the other way for £45 million. The Magpies were instead able to offload Yankubah Minteh and Eliot Anderson to alleviate their PSR struggles and keep Gordon.

The left-winger is a boyhood Liverpool fan who was “desperate” to join in summer 2024, according to multiple reports. This could play into the favour of the Anfield club.

Staying at Newcastle, Alexander Isak remains “liked” by those on Merseyside, but that is the case with many of Europe’s top clubs. A transfer fee for the Swede would likely be in the hundred million mark.

Other than that, there were links to Greek striker Tzimas, who has now joined Brighton.

Either way, with the future of Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold still to be decided, the summer window is looking to be a busy one at Anfield.
