The Best FPL Transfer Tips For Gameweek 17
The phrase ‘When it rains, it pours’ perfectly describes the scenario of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) landscape heading into Gameweek 17. Several players have been injured or suspended amidst the looming blank Gameweek 18 for Manchester City and Brentford. This has left FPL managers in a sticky situation. Erling Haaland mysteriously missed the game against Luton Town due to a foot injury. He might again miss out in Gameweek 17 against Crystal Palace. Guardiola did not seem confident about the Norwegian’s availability against Palace. Haaland’s father selling him from his FPL side has left managers wondering if the injury is long-term.
The absence of Martin Dubravka and Anthony Gordon from the Newcastle training photos against Milan, the availability of Dan Burn (which affects Livramento’s minutes and somewhat Lascelles’ too), suspension of key players like Kieran Trippier, Bruno Fernandes, and Douglas Luiz, and bench players like Charlie Taylor and Jarrad Branthwaite has left managers with no choice but to take hits to field a starting XI.
Many popular picks like Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Matty Cash are on four yellow cards and will miss out on one game should they pick up one before Gameweek 19. So, it’s better to tread with caution. It is not the worst game week to take a four-point hit. Before diving into the article, let us have a look at the odds for Gameweek 17.
Gameweek 17 Odds
For the odds, I am using FPL Review’s Massive Data Model’s Raw Data. This data is based on the assumption that a player plays 90 minutes and comes from the site’s Massive Data Model, which is known to be more predictive than cleaned Bookmaker Odds. Manchester City is top for Clean Sheet odds at 53%, while Chelsea and Bournemouth make the top 3 with odds of 48% and 39% respectively to keep a Clean Sheet. Sheffield United, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace are at the bottom of the Clean Sheet data.
Erling Haaland tops the chart of Gameweek 16 Scorer Data, with 1.14 eGoals/90 and Anytime Scoring % of 68%, with Julian Alvarez and Mohamed Salah making it to the top three with Anytime Scoring % of 55% and 51% respectively. The data is based on the assumption that a player plays 90 minutes.

Levi Colwill (£4.6 million, Defender, Chelsea)
Colwill is a great choice for the upcoming week due to Chelsea facing Sheffield United. The Blades are yet to win a game away from home in the Premier League this season and are currently the lowest scorers in the league with just 12 goals all season. The expectation is that Colwill will at least keep a clean sheet for a Chelsea side in dire need of a win. DraftHounds model predicts Colwill to at least pick up 5.5 points in the upcoming game, making him a must-have in your defense.
Malo Gusto ( £4.1m, Defender, Chelsea)
Malo Gusto has been confirmed fit this morning by Mauricio Pochettino for the game against Sheffield United, which makes him another must-have in the defense for the upcoming game week.. With Chelsea likely to get a clean sheet and Gusto’s ability going forward, he is a perfect choice to maximize your points.
With Reece James set for a spell on the sidelines, Gusto is almost certain to start nearly every game for Chelsea. This weekend is likely to be the start of a long period in the starting 11 for the French full-back, and for the price he’s available for it’s an easy choice to make to transfer him into your squad.
Dominick Solanke ( £6.7m, Forward, Bournemouth)
Dom Solanke must be feeling like an anime character at the moment due to his form, and that’s why you should look no further when transferring in a striker for this upcoming gameweek. With Erling Haaland missing Manchester City’s game the weekend, a lot of players will be looking for a new forward to lead their lines.
Solanke’s Bournemouth face Luton at the weekend, and you’d expect him to at least pick up a goal considering the form they are currently in. Drafthound predicts Solanke to score at least 5.2 points this weekend.
Mohamed Salah ( £13.2m, Forward, Liverpool) – Captain
There was a time in the past when many FPL players would take Mohamed Salah out of their teams if the next opponent was Manchester United, now he’s an absolute must-have. Mohamed Salah should be everyone’s captain ahead of this gameweek, and it’s quite clear why.
Liverpool faces a Manchester United side in disarray at Anfield, and we all know how that poem ended last season. The 7-0 defeat will have left scars on the United players, and the expectation is that Salah will inflict more damage on Erik ten Hag’s men this Sunday. Drafthound predicts Salah to secure at the very least 8.8 points in the gameweek, making him the number one choice to be your captain. Manchester United’s defense is laced with injuries, and the Egyptian will be licking his lips at the prospect of a few goals against Liverpool’s bitter rivals.
