SOURCES: Manchester United Not Expected To Move For Ederson In January Despite Links

Manchester United have been linked with a number of players over the last couple of weeks, but few of the links have been truly concrete. United are tight on cash coming into the January window due to PSR regulations and a cash flow issue within the football club, so any signings will be largely dependent on outgoings. The positions of true need will be prioritized, with left wingback and left inside forward currently felt to be the two areas the side needs to sign the most.

Ruben Amorim has been bullish in his defence of his side in recent weeks, but the manager will know a number of additions are needed in order for this team to be able to carry out his system to a high level. One of the player’s needed to do this is a high-action midfielder in the pivot, with United linked heavily to Ederson from Atalanta in recent weeks.

Some have suggested United are expected to move for Ederson in January, but sources close to AttackingFootball understand that is unlikely. United’s financial situation, accompanied by Atalanta’s reluctance to part ways with a key player during a title race, means a winter transfer is extremely unlikely, with July expected to be when United will attempt to sign him.

There is definite interest from United in Ederson. He signifies a near-perfect midfielder for an Amorim system, but it will take around £50m for United to sign him this summer. Atalanta did not want to sell the player under any circumstances last season, with interest from Liverpool as well as the red side of Manchester, but this summer may paint a different story.

United are pushing in regards to outgoings this winter, but any sales will be unlikely due to the high wages on a number of players. It’s anticipated, however, that Marcus Rashford will not be short of suitors, as the 27-year-old continues to be left out of Amorim’s squad, with the general consensus being he has played his last game for United.

Whatever happens in January for United, however, is unlikely to have Ederson involved, with a move, as previously mentioned, near impossible.
