SOURCES: Manchester United Have Not Made Contact With Zinedine Zidane
News broke yesterday that Manchester United and INEOS, in particular, have huge interest in acquiring the services of Zinedine Zidane, should Erik ten Hag be removed from his position as manager of the football club in the coming months. The Dutchman was defiant in the press conference yesterday before the Nottingham Forest game tonight and is confident he has the full support or Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Zidane has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, and has been linked to various roles since then, but has yet to return to management. Manchester United have been one of those clubs heavily linked to a possible move in recent years, but nothing concrete has ever come from those links.
United Have Not Made Contact With Zidane:
We understand Manchester United have yet to make any contact with Zinedine Zidane or his representatives over possibly succeeding Erik ten Hag as the United manager. There has been no contact made between the two parties.
Zidane won the Champions League three times in a row at Madrid and then came back to win La Liga in his second stint at the club before departing again. He is the only manager in the modern era to retain the trophy three times, a feat that may not be replicated for many years to come. A move to Liverpool is unlikely for the former French midfielder, so the most logical clubs in England are Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea are said to be keen on Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi however.
Despite the reported interest, United have made no contact with Zidane, and it’s unknown whether that will change in the coming months. Fabrizo Romano has maintained that Manchester United are behind Erik ten Hag, and he has very good chance at present to remain manager at the club going into next season. David Ornstein has also backed this up by revealing that INEOS are massive fans of the Dutch manager.
Has Ten Hag Turned Things Around Before?
Situations like this under Erik ten Hag are not uncommon, and they have happened at clubs he’s been at previously. The positive thing for Manchester United fans is that he turned it around everywhere he went. Ten Hag has had some form of success at every club he’s been at, whether that be winning a trophy or turning the club into a functional establishment compared to when he came into the club.
His biggest achievements most notably came during his Ajax run, but before that, he was the manager who came closest to winning Bayern Munich II the league title for many years. He was nicknamed, “mini pep”, during his time in Germany and took a lot of pointers from Guardiola while working under him with the second team.
He is the fastest manager to reach 100 league wins with Ajax, and one of 11 managers to have won all six group games in Champions League history having done it with the Dutch side in a group containing Borussia Dortmund, Sporting CP and Besiktas.
The Dutchman is quite clearly a very good manager, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe was bullish when speaking about the problems for the manager stemming from the environment he’s working in during the week when asked about the future of Erik ten Hag.
“If you look at Manchester United in the last 11 years, none of the managers have done terribly well, and there’ve been some really good coaches. The conclusion from that has to be the environment for the coach has not been a successful one.”
