SOURCES: Manchester United Are Not In Talks With Fenerbache For Sebastian Szymanski

Manchester United have been scouting a number of players over the last few weeks, but that seems to be all they’re doing at the moment as the summer transfer window draws closer. As per the reliable Scouts in Attendance page on Twitter, United have recently scouted the likes of Morten Hjumland from Sporting CP during a game against Benfica. Another player the page has revealed the Reds are scouting is 24-year-old Polish midfielder Sebastian Szymanski from Fenerbache.

Szymanski was signed from Russian side Dynamo Moscow last July for a fee of €9.75 million, having had previous spells at Feyenoord on loan and Legia Warsaw. He has also featured 30 times for Poland’s National Team, scoring on two occasions. Szymanski can play on both wings, as well as central and attacking midfield.

United are well acquainted with the Turkish club after doing business during the summer. Erik ten Hag’s side acquired the signing of Altay Bayindir on a permanent deal, with Brazilian midfielder Fred going the other way. The relationship is good, but Szymanski is not a pressing issue right now for United, and Fenerbache have no desire to negotiate any transfers at present.

No Active Talks For Szymanski:

We understand here at AttackingFootball that there are no active talks between Manchester United and Sebastian Szymanski. United’s decision to scout the player is simply that for the time being, as Fenerbache are unwilling to engage in any active transfer discussions until the end of the season due to their involvement in the Turkish title race against rivals Galatasaray.

Szymanski has a current market value of €20 million according to Transfermarkt, and has featured 41 times for Fenerbache this season, scoring 12 goals and delivering 14 assists from attacking midfield. United are likely looking for more reinforcements in those areas, with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount the only two recognised attacking mids in the current squad, with the latter missing nearly the whole campaign through injury.

Midfield Targets:

United are expected to strengthen significantly in the middle of the park this summer, with a new defensive midfielder almost certain to enter the fray. It will be the club’s first transfer window under a proper sporting structure in more than a decade, so it’s expected the quality of player coming into the club will be a lot higher than in recent years, and the prices paid will be a bit less bizarre considering Omar Berrada’s track record in the transfer market for Manchester City. United also hope to have appointed Dan Ashworth by the summer transfer window, as they continue negotiations with Newcastle for his compensation fee.

Amadou Onana is a player admired at the club, but as we understand, Arsenal also have an interest in his services. United could face a battle for the Belgian in the summer, but Everton could have to lower their asking price due to the current financial troubles they find themselves in. Chelsea may also be one of the clubs involved in that race as they look to sign a more physical presence in midfield to go along with the partnership of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Joao Neves is another player hugely liked internally at Manchester United, but his price tag could be a sticking point, with Benfica expected to ask for upwards of £100 million. Morten Hjumland has been confirmed as a target to go alongside with the scouting, so he will be a player to keep an eye on for the Reds when the window opens. Signings are certain this summer for INEOS, the only real questions are which targets they decide to push for.
