Premier League Matchday 9 Predictions

It feels like this season will drag on forever, granted the occurrence of two international breaks already doesn’t benefit that feeling, and maybe the fact a Southampton fan is writing this makes it feel even longer after our dire result at the weekend. Anyway, onto the thing you guys came here for:

Welcome back to Alex and Yassin’s weekly predictions, where we compete head-to-head. Scott also contributes to the TikTok page, where we share our thoughts and predictions. At the end of each week, we will see who has better ball knowledge or luck.

Check out last week’s predictions to see how well we did!

Premier League Matchday 9 Predictions & Previews

Leicester City vs Nottingham Forest

Leicester City: Leicester City managed to snatch a 3-2 win against Southampton, benefitting from some refereeing controversy. They now play against Nottingham Forest, one of the teams with a dream start to the season.

Nottingham Forest: Forest is still flying and having an unexpectedly brilliant start to their 24/25 season. They are a lot higher than anyone would have thought. With the East Midlands derby up next, they will want to push home and show the rest of the league they mean business.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 3-1 Forest. Leicester won a twelve vs ten on Saturday and weren’t that good until Fatawu came on the pitch. Forest will outclass Leicester.

Yassin’s prediction: 1-1. Leicester knows how to get points here and there. Playing against his old team will feel personal for Steve Cooper. His players respond accordingly, and the game ends with a draw.

Manchester City vs Southampton

Manchester City: The Citizens dominated the game against the Wolves but could not find the winning goal until the last second. They are still far away from their scintillating best.

Southampton: Where do I start and finish with Southampton at the moment? Absolutely no backbone and fighting spirit. Losing the game when you went into halftime 2-0 up Home and then go on to lose the game is a disgrace on any level. The most challenging game of the season is up next, and Southampton won’t even make a dent into Man City.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 8-0 Manchester City. It was not quite nine, and if it were, it would be the second 9-0 I’ve witnessed live, which has to be a record in itself. Saints will pose 0 threat to the Premier League serial winners.

Yassin’s prediction: 5-0 Manchester City. Is there any doubt about the result of this game end? City gets their first clean sheet since week 1 in an easy win.

Brentford vs Ipswich Town

Brentford: The Bees put up a decent performance at Old Trafford at the weekend but didn’t come away with anything to show. Ipswich is next, and The Bees will be looking for only three points.

Ipswich: Ipswich lost to Everton in the last game, and it was not a good performance either. They need to tighten their defence to stay in the Premier League.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 4-1 Brentford. The leaky Ipswich backline and the physical prowess of the Brentford side will show its dominance, and they will brush the tractor men aside.

Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Brentford. Brentford is a seasoned Premier League operator coming off a loss. The Bees sting the tractor boys.

Brighton vs Wolves

Brighton: Brighton went to St James Park and beat Newcastle. They have 15 points from eight games. Fabian Hürzeler’s squad is doing well.

Wolves: Wolves were unlucky not to gain a point against Manchester City. However, the decision was the correct one, and hopefully, they can end their winless run in the league so far. However, that will be a tough test against in-form Albion.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 3-0 Brighton. Wolves’ winless ruin continues as the seagulls taunt and fly away from the wolves, and Hürzeler’s men are making a real name for themselves right now.

Yassin’s prediction: 2-1 Brighton. This is another challenging game for Wolves, in which they play well, but their quality fails them. They hope their schedule will ease soon.

Aston Villa vs Bournemouth

Aston Villa: The Villans have won 17 points out of 24. They roll over teams below their level. With Arsenal out of sync and City struggling to find their best without Rodri, Unai Emery’s squad could be sneaky title contenders.

Bournemouth: Bournemouth is starting to solidify itself as a proper Premier League side after that brilliant 2-0 win at home vs Arsenal making a name for themselves. By May could they sneak into the European places?

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 3-3, an End to end encounter with both sides leaving Villa Park sharing the points but also both making even bigger names for themselves

Yassin’s prediction: 3-2 Villa. Bournemouth luck turned against Arsenal. They have been playing well and will play well at Villa Park, but Emery’s squad quality tells the end. An entertaining game at Villa Park ends with Duran winning it from the bench for Villa. Who could have expected that, eh?

Everton vs Fulham

Everton: The Toffees are starting to find their feet this season after an abysmal start and could look to extend their unbeaten run with a win/draw vs Fulham at home this weekend. Everton kicking off at 17:30 feels proper, Barclays doesn’t It

Fulham: Fulham took the lead against Villa, then went into self-destruction mode. Perreira missed a penalty, Andersen got sent off, and Diop scored an own goal. Against teams of Villa quality, these amounts of mistakes will get punished.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 2-0 Everton. Fulham, without Andersen, could suffer a defeat here, especially if they start to make a habit of all those mistakes vs Aston Villa.

Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 Fulham. Everton is starting to amass some points. Fulham gets out of their self-destructive attitude against City and Villa to get an easy win at Goodison Park.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

Crystal Palace: Palace looked like a shadow of themselves after the last eight games of last season, when they flourished, and now, this season, they have fallen flat on their faces. Glasner needs to adapt and tweak while finding a solution to end this torrid ruin.

Tottenham: The Lilywhites started badly against West Ham. Then everything clicked, and they rolled to an easy win. Spurs are starting to grow into Postogeclu ideas.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 4-0 Tottenham. I enjoy watching Tottenham because they always bring an entertaining game, whether it’s to their demise or their satisfaction. This week, it will be to their satisfaction to brush aside one of the worst sides in the League.

Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Tottenham. Palace is one of the league’s worst teams, if not the worst. It is tough seeing them getting anything out of this game.

West Ham vs Manchester United

West Ham: The Hammers are starting to ask questions of Julien Lopetegui after the big transfer of money he was allowed to spend over the summer, and the results do not correlate with their money spent so far. Poor performances must be eradicated, but we will have a tough test against Manchester United.

Manchester United: The Red Devils looked like a team that did not want to be there against Brentford. Feeling the injustice, Pinnock’s goal sparked a reaction, and they played very good football in the second half to beat the Bees.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 0-0 Poor performance from both sides leaves to a bore draw at the London Stadium with both Managers under heightened pressure

Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Manchester United. The Hammers are in disarray. They concede goals for fun, and they leave acres of space behind. With Kudus suspended, the Red Devils’ job becomes more manageable, and they win easily at London Stadium.

Chelsea vs Newcastle:

Chelsea: Chelsea put in a good performance against Liverpool at Anfield. Some individual mistakes and lack of experience cost them a chance to get anything of the game. The Blues are becoming better with each game.

Newcastle: Newcastle lacked that finishing touch against Brighton, creating 2xg but not scoring a goal. Goals will need to start flowing, but they will be just as fine as they always are. Cementing themselves in the European places will be key this season.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 3-0 Chelsea. Maresca’s men are really hitting form now, showing up against the big sides and putting in top performances.

Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Chelsea. Results are finally starting to match Newcastle’s performances. The Magpies are becoming a stale team devoid of ideas.

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal: Arsenal had a very poor performance against Bournemouth and will struggle to maintain their previous performances against other teams against Liverpool this weekend, with their injury/suspension list rising. Will they be able to contain Liverpool and Slot’s men?

Liverpool: Liverpool looked happy to sit back against Chelsea and hurt them on the counter. Then, Chelsea self-destructed, and Liverpool happily took the three points.

Predictions:

Alex’s prediction: 2-1 Liverpool, and the answer was no. Like they were against Chelsea, Liverpool will be content with absorbing the pressure, letting Arsenal have the ball, hitting them with direct and fast players on the attack, punishing them, and taking their chances.

Yassin’s prediction: 2-2. Arsenal knows they cannot fall seven points behind Liverpool. If Arsenal tries to attack, Liverpool’s pace will hurt them. The Reds will be happy with a draw at the Emirates; it hurts the Gunners more than it hurts them. Two teams that defend well and are elite at set pieces. It has all the makings of a draw.
