Premier League Matchday 20 Previews & Predictions
Tottenham vs Newcastle
Tottenham: Ange lives on; somehow, after a poor performance vs. Wolves, he has to deal with the Newcastle side that has five wins on the bounce and will look to and probably should make it six with the very dysfunctional Tottenham side we have before us.
Newcastle: The Magpies easily dismantled Manchester United and seemed in control all game. It is not clear whether that happened because they turned the corner or just because the Red Devils are atrocious.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 4-1 Newcastle. Will it finally be the nail in the coffin for Ange, or will he outlast it again?
Yassin’s prediction: 4-1 Newcastle. The Magpies continue their dominance over Spurs at St James Park with an easy one.
Bournemouth vs Everton
Bournemouth: An excellent team with a good manager who plays exciting, entertaining football. The Cherries are a joy to watch.
Everton: Everton looked very poor against Nottingham Forest and will have another tough test against the season’s dark horse in Bournemouth.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 4-2 Bournemouth. The Cherries will outclass and defeat the Toffees.
Yassin’s prediction: 3-0 Bournemouth. They continue their quest for European football by quickly dismantling the Toffees.
Aston Villa vs Leicester City
Aston Villa: The Villans are not as good as last season. Yet, they still have 29 points and are sitting pretty on their quest for a push to the top four spots in the second round of the league.
Leicester City: Leicester lost again, and with City’s state, some would say it’s a bad loss. Leicester failed to take their chances with a 1.3xG, which was more than Manchester City’s. However, they won’t stand much of a chance against Villa, as their squad should pass through this game easily.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 2-0 Villa. Villa’s side will outclass Leicester, who desperately need reinforcements in the winter window to survive.
Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Villa. They easily dismantle Leicester, continuing their quest to challenge for the top 4 spots.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
Crystal Palace: Palace had a routine victory vs Southampton and now has hit a very good run of form as of late and will hope to continue against Chelsea, who have hit a rough patch recently.
Chelsea: After being labelled as title challengers, the Blues wasted a lot of points and now are more in a top 4 battle than a Premier League trophy battle. To be honest, if you told any fan that, they would have taken it in a heartbeat at the start of the season.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 3-0 Chelsea. The Blues have a decent record away at Crystal Palace, and I expect that to continue.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-1. The Blues get back on track with a tough win against the Eagles.
Southampton vs Brentford
Southampton: The Saints will look for their first Premier League win since November. Brentford have a woeful away record, picking up just two points away from home, so Southampton MUST take this opportunity if they want ANY chance of staying up.
Brentford: They started well against Arsenal, but their insistence on playing out of the back cost them.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 2-0 Southampton. A whole week of training for Juric’s side could help put his plans in stone and engrave his ideas into the side. This, combined with a likely fatigued Brentford side and their woeful away record, means Southampton could take this opportunity.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-1 Saints. They benefit from Brentford’s atrocious away form to get a home win in their first game of 2025.
Manchester City vs West Ham
Manchester City: The Citizens finally got back to winning ways by beating Leicester. Now all eyes will be on Etihad to see if City has turned a corner or if their win was the virtue of Leicester being bad.
West Ham: The Hammers looked woeful against Liverpool and posed no threat. With Jarrod Bowen now out for a while with a fractured foot, their form could landslide
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 4-0 City. Their form will turn and do the usual Manchester City thing and go unbeaten until the end of the season.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 City. Pep Guardiola’s side continues its dominance over the Hammers to try to climb the league table.
Brighton vs Arsenal
Brighton: After their dream start to the season, the Seagulls are now sitting in 10th place after a bad run of form.
Arsenal: The Gunners are back on form with a convincing 3-1 win over local London side Brentford but have another tough test with Brighton up next, and Arsenal and Arteta will be looking for more of the same.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 2-2. Tight, close encounters result in the points being shared at the Amex.
Yassin’s prediction: 3-2 Brighton. The Seagulls get back on track with a problematic win against the Gunners.
Fulham vs Ipswich Town
Fulham: The Cottagers will be gutted at how they ended their game vs Bournemouth, conceding a late leveller, meaning the points were shared. However, against Ipswich, it should be a routine victory for the West London side.
Ipswich Town: They finally won at Portman Road, and it was against Chelsea, nonetheless. The Tractor Boys are now 1 point away from getting out of the top three.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 3-0 Fulham. It is routine and expected for Fulham.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 Fulham. Fulham gets the win at home to continue their quest for European football.
Liverpool vs Manchester United
Liverpool: Arne Slot’s men are a force to be reckoned with, and they won’t stop anyone. Liverpool fans will be expecting a massive victory over the very shaky Manchester United.
Manchester United: The Red Devils are breaking all kinds of records for the wrong reasons. It feels like a team rotten to the core with players unsuitable for Amorim’s idea.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 5-0 Liverpool. Embarrassment for the Red Devils; they look ever more dysfunctional. However, I admire Ruben Amorim’s plan and idea to stick with it and not compromise, unlike Ten Hag, which led to his downfall as players couldn’t adjust to his style.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-1 United. The Red Devils’ best performances under Amorim came against good teams away from Old Trafford. With their backs against the wall, Amorim’s team finally reacted and won at Anfield for the first time in 10 years.
Wolves vs Nottingham Forest
Wolves: Vitor Periera has got Wolves back up and running, and I can see them competing in a close tie here.
Nottingham Forest: They are in dreamland. Some people wish for a Leicester-esque story where one of English football’s most famous and biggest sides can win the League. Can they do it? I don’t think so; Liverpool is far away from them, but finishing in the top four and playing the Champions League next season would be a massive achievement for a fanbase that struggled for success for a very long time.
Predictions
Alex’s prediction: 2-1 Forest. A close, end to end and entertaining game ends with the visitors taking all three points in their quest for UCL football.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 Forest. You know that this game will be personal for Nuno. He will motivate and prepare his team well for that battle, and they handle their business by beating the Cunha-less Wolves.
