Premier League Matchday 16 Predictions
Welcome back to the Attacking Football weekly predictions from Alex and Yassin. Yassin is still left puzzled with Manchester United, and Alex doesn’t know what to think anymore after Southampton’s constant calamities.
Premier League Matchday 16 Preview & Predictions
Arsenal vs Everton
Arsenal: The expensive version of Stoke City will need to find ways to break down Everton other than set pieces. If the Gunners want to have any chance of competing for the league, this game is a must-win.
Everton: Everton must put in a classic Sean Dyche performance and be vigilante and strong in their defending, especially against set-pieces, if they want even to stand a chance vs Arsenal
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 4-0 Arsenal. The set-piece merchants strike again and breeze past the Toffees
Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 Arsenal. The Gunners find a way to beat the Toffees to continue their push in pursuit of Liverpool.
Liverpool vs Fulham
Liverpool: Slot has his Men firing on all cylinders and they look to gain another three points vs a consistent Fulham
Fulham: Fulham proved why they are one of the best teams in the league against Arsenal. They scored from a counterattack, then sat back in a midblock that frustrated Arsenal.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 3-1 Liverpool. Salah does it again and helps ease Liverpool to another great 3 points.
Yassin’s prediction: 1-1. Arne Slot was frustrated by the way his team played against Girona. They were saved by a soft penalty. His frustration continues against Fulham.
Wolves vs Ipswich Town
Wolves: Surely Gary O’Neil can’t last another game for Wolves should they lose to strugglers Ipswich. The players look very disjointed and not on the same page.
Ipswich Town: The Tractor Boys were so close to getting their first Premier League win at home in 22 years. Then, they blew the win in the last 10 minutes. They need to start accumulating some wins if they want to stay in the Premier League.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 3-0 Ipswich. G O’N is GONE awful performance for Wolves.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-2. In a game where 2 teams need a win, it ends in a draw. It will be a fun game, though.
Newcastle United vs Leicester City
Newcastle United: The Geordies look on a slight decline recently and will hope to boost themselves back to what they know they can be vs a new-look Leicester City
Leicester City: The foxes managed to snatch a draw against Brighton by some late minutes’ heroics. They competed well against the Seagulls, and they look on the rise under their new Dutch manager.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 4-1 Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s team get back to better ways with a convincing win vs Leicester City
Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Newcastle. The Magpies get back on track, but the Foxes give them a challenge.
Nottingham Forest vs Aston Vila
Nottingham Forest: Forest have bounced back well from adversity on the blue side of Manchester by going onto defeat the red side 3-2 in an excellent performance.
Aston Villa: They finally got back on track by beating Southampton. Now they go to City Ground to prove that their win against the Saints was not just because Southampton is atrocious.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 3-2 Villa. Unai’s side make it three wins in a week, including an impressive midweek victory in Leipzig.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-1 Forest. Nuno’s Espirito Santo team keeps their push for Europe using the momentum of their win at Old Trafford in years.
Brighton vs Crystal Palace
Brighton: It’s the M23 Derby this weekend, and Seagulls will look to swoop away from the Eagles in what should be a routine victory for the Albion.
Crystal Palace: The Eagles look like a team that turned a corner. They got six points from their last four games and have a streak of four games undefeated. Palace needs to start converting draws into wins to avoid the relegation zone.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 2-0 Brighton. Routine for the Seagulls but demoralising for the Eagles.
Yassin’s prediction: 1-1. The Eagles keep their undefeated streak, and the Seagulls keep wasting points against teams they should beat.
Manchester City vs Manchester United
Manchester City: City have now officially won one game in ten. When Pep Guardiola said he would learn from Russell Martin’s Southampton, nobody thought he would take it literally.
Manchester United: The Red Devils lost their last 2 games in the league against good opponents. Yet, their fans have reason to be optimistic as Amorim ideas are starting to take shape.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 3-3. A close quarters, end-to-end, entertaining, and thrilling Derby game.
Yassin’s prediction: 3-1 Manchester United. Both teams are in atrocious form, and they need a derby win to generate momentum. The Red Devils get it in an entertaining game.
Chelsea vs Brentford
Chelsea: The Blues proved their mentality against Spurs. They came back from two goals down to win the Derby on the Tottenham pitch. They have to be considered serious title challengers
Brentford: The Bee’s have been so good at home, so good that they haven’t lost. However, they also haven’t won away from home this season.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 4-0 Chelsea. Maresca’s Chelsea are on a real steam roll and as the Chelsea fans have chanted, it seems they really do have their Chelsea back.
Yassin’s prediction: 4-2 Chelsea. Brentford games are chaos, but they only have 1 point away from home. Chelsea gets another win in a London Derby
Southampton vs Spurs
Southampton: This gets more and more depressing to make week on week. Another game and another goal conceded from our own implosion. I’m not sure how much longer Martin has, to be honest with you. However, the word ‘Spursy’ springs to mind ahead of this fixture.
Spurs: Everything looked set for Tottenham to dismantle Chelsea and then they got Spursy.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 2-0 Southampton. all I will say is ‘Spursy.’
Yassin’s prediction: 2-2. These are two teams that cure their opponents’ bad form. Whoever is in a slump just needs to play against Southampton or Tottenham. In this game, they don’t cure each other’s woes, and the game ends in a draw.
Bournemuth vs West Ham
Bournemouth: My pick to be the surprise package this season did not disappoint me till now. The Cherries are a fun team to watch under Iraola.
West Ham: West Ham won but realistically lost the El Sackicko as they keep Lopetegui for longer.
Predictions:
Alex’s prediction: 4-1 Bournemouth. Really, really admire this Iraola side and honestly think he could be next in line for the Spurs job if it comes calling.
Yassin’s prediction: 2-0 Bournemouth. Iraola inflicts more pressure on his compatriot, with the Cherries dismantling the Hammers with ease. Only Bournemouth’s wastefulness makes the score closer than the difference in performances between both teams.
