SOURCES: Newcastle United Unlikely To Move For £50m-Rated Amadou Onana This Month
Newcastle United have been linked to Everton midfielder Amadou Onana in the last few days, amid an ongoing midfield crisis at the Tyneside club in recent weeks. Sandro Tonali’s ban was the start of the struggles in midfield back at the beginning of the season, but injuries to key players in recent weeks have put Eddie Howe’s side under real pressure.
Joelinton has recently suffered a groin injury, and may require surgery that could see him miss the remainder of the season. Joe Willock has missed several weeks with an Achilles tendon injury and Elliot Anderson and Jacob Murphy have also both missed games in recent weeks that have caused the Geordies to struggle. They are on a run of just one win in five games, which came in the FA Cup against Sunderland last week.
The manager’s job has come under pressure in recent weeks, perhaps unjustly, but in a results business like football and especially in the Premier League, something needs to change in the coming weeks to keep the former Bournemouth man in the job.
Onana To Save The Day?
Everton are likely to try and sell some assets in the coming months due to their financial situation, and the Belgian midfielder is expected to be one of the players up for sale. £50m is a fee the Toffees could easily expect for Onana, and reports recently have suggested that Newcastle were interested in trying to do a possible deal within this window.
We understand they are unlikely to move for Amadou Onana within this transfer window, with the current reports described to us as just noise at the moment. Newcastle are of course interested in the player, but due to FFP regulations they are not anticipated to be able to afford £50m for the player within this window, and Everton are also unlikely to want to agree to a loan deal.
We have also been told recently that any reports linking Onana to Arsenal are true. There is interest in the player from Mikel Arteta’s side, and they have looked into the possibility of making it happen this month. Nothing is imminent, however, and Onana is at present expected to remain at Goodison Park until the summer.
The future of the midfielder is certainly up in the air at the moment, and Howe’s side are not the only club showing a keen interest in his signature. Manchester United have been heavily linked for some time, but any potential move the Reds make will be in the summer window and not this month, due to INEOS and there preference to prioritise the summer.
Trippier To Bayern?
Kieran Trippier has given the green light to sign for Bayern Munich according to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Sports. The 33-year-old has been linked to the German side in recent days, and a deal could now happen after he gave the go-ahead. Newcastle have however today rejected an approach for the player. It is currently unknown whether Thomas Tuchel’s side will be open to coming back to the table and making another offer, but as of now, Trippier will be remaining at St James Park. For the forseeable.
Tino Livramento has shown his class in recent weeks in his debut season at the club, and the long-term aim is likely to be that the former Chelsea defender takes the reigns from Trippier and becomes the starting right-back. That could have been moved forward a couple of months this season if the club allowed the former Burnley man to leave, but it does not look that way after rejecting the approach from Bayern today.
