Manchester United Make Contact With Roger Fernandes Ahead of Summer Window

Manchester United have made initial contact in recent weeks with representatives of 19-year-old Roger Fernandes, according to SullyTalkz.

Sully says sources close to the club state that scouts hold the player in high regard and feel he is not only a long-term solution but also a player whom Amorim can utilise in the present as well. He also understands that there are several clubs in England, Italy, Spain and Germany who are also extensively looking at the player and there is a high chance he will depart from S.C. Braga in the summer.

Despite there being nothing concrete as of yet, the English club admires the player highly and he is one of many names on the shortlist for the right-wing back position for Ruben Amorim’s system.

Previous reports from O Jogo have stated that the Manchester club is “willing to fight” for the signature of Fernandes, and now it seems the first steps for a move are set in motion.

Additionally, the report says it would likely take an offer of around €30 million (£25m) to pry him away from Braga.

Why Do United Want Roger Fernandes?

The left-footed 19-year-old can play on either flank and, if necessary, transition out to the wing. However, his proficiency on the right makes him an ideal alternative to Diogo Dalot. In addition to his rapid acceleration and adaptability, he is perfect for Amorim’s system, which predominantly utilises wide players. He would be an excellent complement to United, considering his results versus Portugal’s top five clubs over the past 12 months.

In ninety minutes, he has averaged 6.05 ball recoveries, 4.32 carries into the final third, and 9.50 progressive passes. He has the potential to be a fantastic wing-back option for Amorim’s squad, judging by his data.

Whether or not a move materialises remains to be seen, but Manchester United certainly holds an interest in the player.
