EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United Currently Not Preparing Offer for Youssouf Fofana

Manchester United admire Youssouf Fofana from Monaco and have been in contact with the player for some time, but as of right now, they are not thought to be preparing an offer for the Frenchman.

AC Milan have led the race for the player for a number of weeks. Attacking Football understands this still remains the situation, despite Manchester United reportedly looking elsewhere than Manuel Ugarte. Fofana is fully open to joining the Italian club, which is something Monaco is currently aware of.

United have expressed their interest to Fofana’s camp and were speaking to his representatives as recently as July 23rd, but as of right now, the talks have not progressed further than that. AC Milan have an agreement on personal terms with the midfielder and are trying to reach an agreement on the fee with Monaco as things stand.

United have profiled other targets for the number six position should they miss out on Manuel Ugarte, with Sander Berge and Martin Zubimendi two players of interest. The club still remains interested in the Uruguayan, however, and would be open to signing him should PSG lower the asking price, which is set to be around £50 million.

Fofana admires Manchester United and views them as a legendary club, but a move to Italy is currently his priority. The player is waiting for AC to reach an agreement with Monaco, with the French club firmly open to losing their midfielder, who has a year left on his deal.

Another player Erik ten Hag’s side admires is Sofyan Amrabat. The Moroccan is waiting for a final decision from the club he spent last season on loan at, with INEOS deciding against signing him on last season’s loan terms.

Fofana remains someone United admires, and things could change in the coming days, but as of right now, our understanding is that no offer is being prepared, and AC Milan remain favourites.
