Newcastle Fear Losing Dan Ashworth:

Luke Edwards from the Telegraph has reported tonight that Newcastle United now fear losing Dan Ashworth to Manchester United. The sporting director has done immense things at Brighton and Newcastle in the last couple of years, and he was always the man INEOS wanted as the face of the new project in the future.

INEOS played a part in the appointment of Manchester City COO Omar Berrada recently, which was seen as a major coup within the football world. Berrada has been a part of Manchester City’s success over the last decade and has also played a huge role in expanding the club’s franchise in regards to the City Group. Girona, currently second in La Liga behind Real Madrid, are just one of the clubs the new Manchester United CEO has helped mould successfully in the last number of years before being appointed at United.

Newcastle are now fearing that Ashworth will leave the club in the coming months, and join the new look project at Old Trafford.

Ashworth Signings:

Ashworth has played a major role in the recruitment of Brighton and Newcastle during his time at the club. The Englishman was part of the signings of Tariq Lamptey, Kaoru Mitoma, Moises Caicedo, Leandro Trossard and Marc Cucurella during his time at the Seagulls. Since joining Newcastle, Ashworth has brought in the likes of Alexander Isak, Nick Pope, Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Sven Botman.

It’s an impressive catalogue of players on paper, but the good thing about all of those players is that they proved to be successful at the clubs they were signed for. The sign of a good sporting director is not the profile of the players they sign, but the success the players have upon signing for the clubs. It’s a quality Manchester United have lacked in recent years and something they will be hoping to become masters of with the appointment of Ashworth

Fabrizio Romano has also tonight retweeted a post he spoke about previously this year, suggesting that United want Ashworth to be the face of the new project. United have a serious interest in the Newcastle man, but they also have a secret weapon up their sleeves in Sir Dave Brailsford. Brailsford has been friends with Ashworth for several years, and the sporting director has spoken of his admiration for the former British Cycling athlete in the past.

“I’ve known Sir Dave for a number of years, working across various different sports and he is without doubt the best in world sport at creating high-performance culture and turning that into winning. There were some brilliant messages for us all and it was great to get him in at this point of pre-season.”
