Manchester United set to sign André Onana from Inter Milan

Manchester United have a verbal agreement in place with Inter Milan for the signing of Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana. The deal is expected to be completed for a fee of €50 million plus €5 million euros in add ons. According to Fabrizio Romano, all that remains to be discussed is the structure of the add ons included in the deal. Personal terms are said to have been agreed weeks ago, which has made negotiations move at a quicker pace.

Onana, 27, played for Erik Ten Hag during his time in Holland at Ajax and played a total of 214 games for the Amsterdam club. He then signed for Inter Milan in 2022 on a free transfer where he played 41 games for the blue side of Milan including the Champions League final defeat to Manchester City. Onana did arrive for training with Internazionale on Thursday but United are confident that he will join them on the plane to the USA for the start of United’s pre-season tour.

This will be the first time in 12 years that the red side of Manchester will have a new guardian between the posts at Old Trafford. Onana will be replacing David De Gea who had a polarizing 12 years at United but has now become a free agent following the decision to not renew his contract by the club.

It is expected that following the Onana deal, Man Utd will focus primarily on the outgoings at club. The likes of Dean Henderson, Anthony Elanga and Fred have been named as some who will be heading for the exit door to add funds for what the club hope will get them the new striker they have been craving to integrate into Erik Ten Hag’s system. The likes of Harry Kane and Rasmus Hojlund have been shortlisted for the position.
