Liverpool Are Unlikely To Appoint Xabi Alonso As New Manager
Liverpool are now unlikely to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp, with the Spanish manager not anticipated to be on the club’s final shortlist. Alonso has been rumoured to be taking over at Bayern Munich after this current season at Bayer Leverkusen, where his side are the current favourites to win the Bundesliga over last year’s champions.
Bayern have been pushing for Alonso in recent weeks, with Thomas Tuchel leaving the club at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign this year. Reports from Germany have suggested for weeks that Alonso’s most likely destination was Bavaria, and now reports from England tonight have backed up that belief.
Alonso Unlikely For Liverpool
As reported by Paul Joyce, Xabi Alonso is now unlikely to become the next manager of Liverpool Football Club. The honeymoon option is now not expected to become a reality, and the 42-year-old is not expected to be part of the discussions internally in the coming months as Liverpool look to replace Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool could turn to Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who has done amazing things with the current Portuguese Champions over the last two seasons. Another name that will likely be linked to Anfield in the coming weeks is Julian Nagelsmann, who has declared his desire to return to club football after the EURO 2024 campaign with Germany.
Fans will be disappointed with the news for Alonso, with many believing he was the only choice to replace Klopp. There is a belief the former Liverpool player may believe the challenge of replacing the German will be too tall so early in his career, and may not be the best choice right now in his development as a young coach.
The Reds have not decided on their next manager as of yet, and the decision is not likely to be communicated until the end of the season due to Liverpool’s chances of winning a treble.
