Getafe Believe Manchester United Have Extended The Contract Of Mason Greenwood
Getafe are under the belief that Manchester United have triggered an extension in the contract of Mason Greenwood, with the forward’s contract initially set to expire next June. United have plans to sell Greenwood in the summer to try and boost their FFP situation by selling homegrown talent from the academy. Homegrown sales turn into pure profit due to the fact that there was no transfer fee spent on the players emerging from the academy.
Greenwood is highly unlikely to ever feature for United again, especially due to the fact that the 22-year-old still holds anger towards them over the handling of the situation during the investigations against him.
Getafe Believe United Triggered Greenwood Extension
As reported by The Athletic, Getafe, who currently have Greenwood on a loan deal, believes United have triggered a year-long extension of the player’s contract. This is something Manchester United deny, but it remains a belief held by the internal powers at the Spanish club.
The winger played his final game for the club in January of 2022 against West Ham at home and has gone on to make over 20 appearances in La Liga for Getafe this season, scoring six goals. There are a number of clubs reportedly interested in the player, with the majority of them coming from Spain.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked, with representatives from United meeting both clubs in Spain during a trip over the past month. It was denied that the meetings were over Mason Greenwood, however. Atletico Madrid are another club with reported interest, and Juventus have also been linked in the last couple of weeks. No bids have came the way of the Manchester club as of yet however.
The belief at Manchester United, as per the report, is that the player will be sold this summer.
