FPL GW15 Best Captain: Palmer, Salah, Haaland & More
Following a midweek round of Premier League action, we’re having a look at the best captaincy picks ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. Here are our FPL GW15 Best Captain options!
Our surprise pick for GW13 was Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho. Despite United’s 4-0 victory, Garnacho only came on from the bench for the final 25 minutes, unable to make an impact due to the already confirmed result.
It was an impressive performance in front of their new coach Ruben Amorim, but the Argentine was disappointed as he couldn’t add to his goal tally of 3 so far this season.
Let’s hope our surprise pick for GW15 performs better!
FPL GW15 Best Captain Options: The Usual Suspects
- Bukayo Saka (10.4m)
- Expected Points: 4.5
In his last 2 appearances against this weekend’s opponents and fellow Londoners Fulham, Bukayo Saka has hit the net twice.
It was a positive sign for the English winger as the Gunners successfully resumed their title challenge over the past month, winning 3 out of 3.
In convincing wins against both Nottingham Forest (3-0) and West Ham (5-2), Saka has been in unstoppable form, creating 4 assists and scoring twice as Mikel Arteta’s side begin to hit form.
It’s no surprise he returned double-digit FPL points during GWs 12 & 13, and with a busy schedule for all Premier League teams during December, he seems to be hitting form at the right time.
Despite not being involved in any of their goals throughout the 2-0 midweek win over Manchester United, Saka was a constant threat to the United defence.
Unsurprisingly, the Gunners resurgence in form is in direct correlation with skipper Martin Odegaard’s return from injury; the Norwegian is key to the creativity in Arsenal’s attack, and his influence cannot be understated.
It’s another reason Saka will be a key contributor to goals throughout the upcoming weeks & months. He is our top choice for FPL GW15.
- Cole Palmer (11.0m)
- Expected Points: 4.9
Chelsea are on fire at the moment. After claiming 10 points from their last 4 Premier League matches, Enzo Maresca’s side have started the season in impressive form and currently sit in 2nd place, 7 points behind leaders Liverpool.
The blistering start to the season is welcome at Stamford Bridge after a couple of barren years outside the Champions League places.
The appointment of the Italian has changed the fortunes of the club, and with a strong squad with lots of strength in depth, they are set to have a strong season.
This weekend, Chelsea head across London to take on Tottenham. It’s been an inconsistent start to the season for Ange Postecoglu’s side but they have a team capable of upsetting anyone on their day.
Palmer moved up to 3rd in the goalscoring charts after his goal in midweek against Southampton. He now has 9 goals and 6 assists after 14 league matches. An incredibly impressive stat for the 22-year-old.
- Mo Salah (12.9m)
- Expected points: 4.5
The performances each week from Mo Salah seem to get better and better. The Egyptian scored a brace during Liverpool’s midweek 3-3 draw, with Newcastle moving him to the top of the goalscoring charts with 13 for the season.
Talk’s continue to circulate if the league’s top scorer will be at Anfield next season. Liverpool fans are desperate for the goal machine to extend his contract with the club, with the situation continuing to drag on.
His influence on the league leaders seems to have ramped up a notch since the start of this season. He has been involved in over 70% of the Reds goals so far this season as they continue to lead the way at the top after 14 GW’s.
This weekend they face an in-form Everton after they had a comprehensive 4-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday night. Merseyside derbies are typically tight, cagey affairs, especially at Goodison Park, so we fear their may be a lack of goals from the Egyptians this weekend.
Of course, there is the chance the game is postponed due to high winds, so if you are captaining him in GW15, make sure to set your vice captain too!
- Erling Haaland (15.2m)
- Expected points: 4.5
Erling Haaland and Manchester City are currently experiencing a challenging period.
A 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in midweek was badly needed as Pep Guardiola’s side had gone 6 matches without winning.
It’s a run that has seen them drop to 4th place in the Premier League, 9 points behind leaders Liverpool.
He has a perfect record against this week’s opponents, Crystal Palace; however, the big Norwegian has lined up against the Eagles 3 times in the Premier League, resulting in 3 victories, and more importantly, he has scored 5 goals.
That should give him a much-needed boost of confidence after being passed by Mo Salah in the race for the Golden Boot. The return to the starting 11 of maestro Kevin De Bruyne in midweek will also benefit Haaland; the Belgian is well-known for his eye for a pass, and with supply to the number 9 lacking quality over the last couple of months, this will no doubt be a boost.
This weekend’s trip to Selhurst Park will be difficult for City as the Eagles fight for points to elevate themselves away from the relegation zone.
We are expecting a low-scoring, tight affair. It may be best to hold off on captaining Haaland this weekend.
FPL GW15 Best Captain Options: The Surprise Pick
- Morgan Rogers (5.3m)
- Expected points: 2.9
Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers is beginning to show signs that he is settling into his first full season in the Premier League, and we tip him to score big in GW15 in FPL.
He scored the opener in their 3-1 midweek victory over Brentford, and it was a perfect example of the quality the young Englishman has—a well-placed shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.
This weekend they welcome struggling Southampton to Villa Park. The Saints were hammered 5-1 by Chelsea in midweek and are suffering an injury crisis with Aaron Ramsdale, Will Smallbone, & Adam Lallana all ruled out of Saturday’s afternoon’s clash. They are not helped by captain Jack Stephens receiving a straight red card on Wednesday night, ruling him out for 3 matches.
On paper, it gives Villa a huge opportunity to collect 3 points, and we are predicting Rogers will be at the centre of that victory again. For a very reasonable 5.3 million, he is a must-have entering a very busy period for FPL managers.
