FPL GW13 Best Captain: Palmer, Salah, Haaland & More
Following another round of European action, we’re having a look at the best captaincy picks ahead of this week’s round of fixtures. Here are the FPL GW13 best captain options!
Our surprise pick for GW12 was Newcastle frontman Alexander Isak. After coming off the back of a decent international break, it was disappointment for the Swedish international as his side went down 2-0 to West Ham at St James Park.
It was a poor performance from Newcastle as West Ham picked up only their second away win of the season and first since August.
It was a night to forget for Isak, as he was unable to add to his tally of 4 goals so far this season.
Let’s hope our surprise pick for GW13 performs a little better!
FPL GW13 Best Captain Options: The Usual Suspects
- Cole Palmer (10.9m)
- Expected Points: 6.63
Chelsea have gone four Premier League games unbeaten as their bid for a European spot heats up. Their form under manager Enzo Maresca has undoubtedly improved as they begin to assert themselves as a force again.
The Blues main man Cole Palmer is on a barren run at the moment; he has failed to deliver a goal contribution in their last 3 Premier League matches. This stat will concern FPL managers as the cost of Palmer continues to grow.
The costly 10.9 million fee for Palmer has caused a number of talking points among FPL managers, and with his current form, it is hard to justify keeping the English International in your team.
That said, he is Chelsea’s most dangerous attacker, and there is huge pressure on him to perform in this team.
This weekend, they welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge. Palmer is known to turn on the style more often than not at the Bridge, and against fellow European chasers Aston Villa we think this weekend will be no different.
- Bukayo Saka (10.1m)
- Expected Points: 6.02
The Gunners head to the London Stadium on Saturday evening to take on West Ham, who will be full of confidence following their impressive win away to Newcastle on Monday night.
Arsenal were also on their travels this week as they convincingly defeated Sporting Lisbon 5-1 on Tuesday night, with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and substitute Leandro Trossard all getting on the scoresheet.
It’s a good sign for Arsenal fans, as Mikel Arteta’s side seem to be hitting form heading into a busy period domestically.
Even though results may not have been ideal for the first part of this season, winger Bukayo Saka continued to perform to a high level and was always a threat for the Gunners.
He will be keen to replicate his man-of-the-match performance in this fixture last year, where he bagged a brace, as the North Londoners aim to get their title charge back on track.
That performance is fresh in the memory, and for that reason alone, Saka is a leading contender to get the captain’s armband ahead of GW13.
- Mo Salah (12.9m)
- Expected points: 5.98
It would be an understatement to say this weekend’s clash between Liverpool and Manchester City is crucial as to the destination of the Premier League title come May.
Already 8 points behind their rivals, Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford another loss as the gap is getting larger by the weekend.
That said, the form of Liverpool’s main man, Mo Salah, will be crucial to the fortunes of the Reds over the next few months and especially this weekend.
The Egyptian scored twice last weekend as the Reds rescued a victory from St Marys after Southampton had taken a 2-1 lead.
His record against this week’s opponents is surprisingly impressive considering the stranglehold they’ve had on the league over recent years. In 14 Premier League appearances, he has amassed 11 goal contributions.
Talks continue to circulate if Liverpool’s top scorer will be at Anfield next season. Liverpool fans are desperate for the goal machine to extend his contract with the club, with the situation continuing to drag on.
This weekend we are taking a backward step in regards to captaining Salah; although the stats all point towards the wideman contributing, we think it’s best to watch on and wait for a better opportunity.
- Erling Haaland (15.2m)
- Expected points: 4.68
Concerns continue to grow among City fans as Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League was their 6th game in a row without a victory.
Despite facing injuries to crucial players such as Rodri, Jeremy Doku, John Stones, and Mateo Kovačić, the team Pep Guardiola picked to face the Dutch side was littered with quality as they raced into a 3-0 lead only to be unexpectedly pegged back.
Pressure continues to grow on the defending champions, and they know they cannot afford to lose this weekend.
On a positive note, frontman Erling Haaland was back among the goals as he notched a brace that looked like securing all 3 points.
Surprisingly, he has lined up twice at Anfield for Manchester City without hitting the net yet, a stat he will want to put right this weekend.
The possible injury to Ibrahima Konate at the end of Liverpool’s Champions League encounter with Real Madrid on Wednesday night will give goal machine Haaland a boost.
The French centre-back has been rock-solid so far this season and has formed a strong understanding with defensive partner Virgil Van Dijk; his possible exclusion would be a blow to the Reds ahead of a crucial tie.
With the record the Norwegian striker has at Anfield, we are pleased to sit and watch without captaining Haaland this weekend.
FPL GW13 Best Captain Options: The Surprise Pick
- Alejandro Garnacho (6.4m)
- Expected points: 4.6
Eventually, things seem to be changing for the better at Old Trafford. The appointment of Ruben Amorim has given fans renewed hope as they begin the process of returning to Europe’s elite.
The new appointment on the sidelines will also give the players an added reason to impress. This weekend they host Everton in Amorim’s first home Premier League match.
Having begun with a draw last weekend and a 3-2 victory in Europe this week, things are going well for the new boss.
Scoring in 2 of his last 3 appearances, Alejandro Garnacho is a player on form and he can flourish under the new manager. We feel this weekend is a perfect time to bring the United winger into your FPL team and trust him with the captaincy.
The Argentine wonderkid found it difficult to consistently perform under previous boss Erik Ten Haag but has been given license to express himself under the new boss.
We feel the 20-year-old can be a big part of the improvement at Old Trafford, and 6.4 million is a no-brainer to have in your FPL team for this weekend.
