EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United Are Interested In Signing Miguel Gutierrez But Face Battle To Secure Deal
Manchester United are expected to be in the market for a full-back in the summer transfer window, and they may delve into the Spanish market to sign one. Miguel Gutierrez has been in fine form for a Girona side who have performed admirably this season and has caught the attention of some top clubs across Europe, especially within the Premier League.
United are likely to sign a new left-back in the summer due to concerns over the fitness issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Both have had their injury issues this season, and the club are expected to step into the market to try and identify a more reliable option to go into next season with. INEOS are likely to spend big to try and push the Reds back to the top of English football, starting with the upcoming window.
United & Arsenal Interested In Gutierrez:
We understand Manchester United are interested in the signing of Miguel Gutierrez ahead of the summer transfer window. Sources close to the club have confirmed the Red’s interest in the defender, who has played 25 times in La Liga for Girona this season.
The problem for United however according to our information is that Real Madrid, who sold Gutierrez to Girona, are expected to trigger the buy-back clause of the defender in the summer. The Spanish club inserted an €8m buy-back clause in the contract of the left-back when he joined Girona in August of 2022 for €4m.
Madrid will bring Gutierrez back to the club and will then decide on whether to sell him on for more profit or keep him at the club. They have been linked with a move for Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich in recent days, which may suggest they intend to make a profit off the sale of the 22-year-old.
Who Is Miguel Gutierrez?
Gutierrez started his career at Getafe’s academy before moving to Real Madrid’s academy in 2011. Since then, the Spaniard has made nine appearances for the first team, as well as 31 appearances for Real Madrid B in the second division.
Having signed for Girona last season, the talented full-back has rose to prominence, so much so that his former club are ready to bring him back. There is no guarantee Gutierrez will remain at the Bernabeu when he does return permanently, but the plan at the moment is to trigger the buy-back clause of €8m and then make a decision in the summer.
When looking at statistics, Gutierrez has an 85.8% pass completion rate this season, averaging 4.13 progressive passes per 90 minutes. His tackle percentage is a worry, with a success rate of below 40%, so that will have to be something that improves within the Premier League due to the difference in aggression compared to La Liga.
His assist record is impressive, with six this season so far, four of those coming in the league. For a full-back is take on succession is impressive, as he’s in the top 77 percentile when compared to other players in Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s a difficult deal for United to do due to Real Madrid’s involvement, and they will have to pay a bit more than €8m to try and sign the full-back if they do decide to turn their interest into action in the coming weeks. They may also face competition from Arsenal, as we understand the Gunners are also keen admirers of the player.
