EXCLUSIVE: Jonny Evans FAILED Late Fitness Test & Was NOT Fit to Start Against Crystal Palace
Jonny Evans was NOT fit to start tonight against Crystal Palace, Attacking Football sources understand. The Northern Irishman has been out for nearly a month, after sustaining an injury against Chelsea back in April.
The defender returned to training last week, but according to our sources, he FAILED a late fitness test before this evening’s game.
With no senior centre-backs at his disposal, Erik ten Hag decided to play the 36-year-old anyway. Manchester United went on to lose emphatically to Crystal Palace 4-0, as Evans partnered midfielder Casemiro in the back four.
Currently, the Red Devils are without Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Willy Kwambala. The likelihood is that, with a chance at securing Europa League football, the Dutchman decided to risk Evans in hopes of collecting three points.
