EXCLUSIVE: Barcelona Defender Mikayil Faye Expected To Leave Club This Summer
Miyakil Faye is expected to leave Barcelona this summer, with a number of top clubs around Europe circling to sign the 19-year-old defender. Faye signed for the Catalan club last summer from Croatian side NK Kustosija, but has yet to feature for the first team at Camp Nou as of yet. His career didn’t start in Croatia, however, with his first steps into professional football coming at Gambian side Diambars FC.
Barcelona are set to earn a substantial amount of money for the Senegal defender, having signed him for just €1.5 million. Faye has played 25 times so far for Barca Atletic in the third tier of Spanish football, gaining a reputation for himself with some impressive performances. They currently sit second in the table with eight games to go, just one point behind Deportivo La Coruna.
The Atletic side has had some promising youngsters in the setup this season already, with Pau Curbasi coming from the second team into the first team squad under Xavi Hernandez. The former Kustosija defender scored a free kick in the last minute in his last appearance against Osasuna B, giving his team all three points in the process. In his last seven games for club and country, he has scored five goals.
Faye Expected To Leave Barcelona
We understand Mikayil Faye is expected to leave Barcelona this summer, with a host of top clubs interested in signing him. The fee he is expected to be sold for will be around €25million. Manchester United have been heavily linked in recent weeks, along with clubs like Girona in the Spanish league and Juventus in Italy. The belief is that Faye will leave Barcelona to join a “Top Club In Europe”.
The young centre-back is slowly becoming one of the most sought-after talents on the continent of Europe, and with a fee of just €25 million expected to be enough to take him away from Barcelona, it’s not a surprise there are so many clubs interested. Manchester United are monitoring the younger markets for players they could possibly buy and loan to OGC Nice to aid their development, and Faye could be a player INEOS look to bring in for that exact reason.
Faye is left-footed and is described as a centre-back with lightning pace and the strength to match. The Barcelona player has all the attributes needed in the modern game to succeed, and that can only improve as he continues to develop in the game. His ball striking is something you don’t usually associate with a centre-back, but it is reminiscent of a centre-forward at times when he catches hold of the ball, leading to some of the magnificent goals he’s scored in recent weeks.
He is already a Senegalese international, having made his debut against Gabon in a recent friendly. He played 80 minutes as his team kept a clean sheet, and he also scored a goal. His ability to score goals from defence is one of his best assets, having already scored four this season with the Barca Atletic side. There have been no official bids as of yet, but they are anticipated closer to the summer window.
