Enzo Maresca Dismisses João Félix’s Impact at Chelsea in Bold Claim
Enzo Maresca has shut down suggestions that Chelsea regret letting João Félix go, insisting the club “doesn’t miss him.”
The Portuguese forward rejoined the club in the summer for a deal worth £44.5 million after a previous loan at Chelsea in the second half of 2022/2023. He arrived as part of a deal that also saw Cobham graduate Conor Gallagher move the other way.
Felix, who is now on loan at AC Milan after Chelsea agreed to a loan move with no buy option, is perhaps proving Maresca wrong. The 25-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to life in Italy, scoring on his debut against Roma, as well as starting in a 2-0 win against Empoli.
The Italian manager defended the move, stating he “couldn’t offer him game time,” and insisted it was best for all parties.
“I don’t think we miss João. He’s happy there [Milan] and we’re happy that he’s happy.”
Chelsea are currently facing an injury crisis in the forward department as both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu missed out on their FA Cup exit to Brighton with injury.
Maresca will be hoping at least one of the two can be deemed fit, as they return to the Amex on February 14, hoping to get a different result, this time in the Premier League.
