Pre-Deadline Transfer Sheet: Liverpool & Manchester United Version

The window is entering it’s craziest hour, with a bundle of clubs expected to seek out opportunistic deals in a bid to improve their squad before the deadline at 11pm tomorrow. Manchester United are still in the hunt for players, with a move for Raheem Sterling still not off the cards despite suggestions Juventus are closing in on a transfer for Jadon Sancho. It’s felt that Juve currently leads the race for the winger, but a move for Raheem Sterling is yet to be ruled out, with talks ongoing between all three clubs for Sancho at this moment in time.

Sterling is expected to be the last player United would get in should a deal happen, which is absolutely not certain as of now. Manuel Ugarte is anticipated to be announced at Old Trafford today, with the player already undergoing the main part of his medical tests ahead of his £51 million move from PSG. Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof could still leave the club before the deadline, but neither player has received an offer as of yet, despite interest in Holland for Eriksen and interest in Turkey for Lindelof.

Sekou Kone will be a Manchester United player today with the Mali international undergoing his medical at Carrington. Chido-Obi Martin’s deal is still going through a process from the Premier League, but there is no hiccups at this moment with the player full expected to join Manchester United once the process is done.

Liverpool Still In Market Before Deadline:

Liverpool are remaining coy in their approach to the market with just two days left. The Red’s sealed a deal for Federico Chiesa yesterday for around £10.5m, while Giorgi Mamardashvili’s move to the club was announced. The Georgian will join in 2025 and will spend this season on loan at his current club, Valencia. Liverpool are said to be in the market for a centre-back, but it’s felt that the defender will be a left-footed one. Mohamed Simakan was name linked yesterday, but despite the player being someone admired internally, there are no active talks ongoing to sign him. Simakan was admired under Klopp, but Arne Slot is thought to have changed the club’s plans and actively pursued a left-footed defender.

Castello Lukeba is also someone admired by Liverpool, but the player is not on the market this summer, meaning any deal is near impossible. Piero Hincapie had not received any contact from Liverpool on August 8th, meaning the club would have to swoop in within the next 48 hours to try and reach an agreement to sign a player they do admire. Ousmane Diomande, while right-footed, is admired by Liverpool, but as of August 9th, no talks were underway, with the player heavily felt to be remaining at Sporting until next season at least.

In midfield, Martin Zubimendi was Liverpool’s primary target this summer, but a deal was always difficult with Real Sociedad always maintaining a deal for the player was strictly prohibited. Mikel Merino was viewed as the more likely player to leave, with Arsenal getting that feeling when they went for Zubimendi earlier in the window, eventually signing Merino and announcing the deal the other day.

Ederson from Atalanta has been linked to Liverpool all summer, but the club from Merseyside have never made a bid. They are interested, but with two days left in the window, we understand any deal is extremely difficult, with Atalanta having absolutely no interest in negotiating any deal for the player. Ederson will not force a move, leaving the Italian side in an extremely comfortable place when it comes to keeping the player in the next 48 hours.

Chiesa was an intelligent signing, but he wasn’t the only forward player the club profiled this summer. Karim Konate was of interest from RB Salzburg, as well as Oscar Gloukh. Salzburg are also aware of a number of clubs interest in Lucas Gourna-Douath, but the club deem the player not for sale, as he has a contract to the club until June 2027. It is not currently thought the decision to allow Stefan Bajetic to join the club on loan will change that situation.

To summarize, barring any late surprises, Manchester United’s only slightly likely incoming feels like it coild be Raheem Sterling, while Liverpool seem to have a difficult task at convincing a number of their main targets this summer as far as the media goes anyways to join before tomorrow’s deadline.
