SOURCES: Chelsea Yet To Make Contact For Bayer Leverkusen Defender Piero Hincapie
Chelsea are likely to miss out on one of the targets they admire in the shape of Riccardo Calafiori, but they have yet to make contact for a player many felt would be their plan B. Piero Hincapie was a strong part of the unit that saw Xabi Alonso’s side go unbeaten in the Bundesliga last season, and has become a strongly sought-after player on the market ever since.
The Ecuadorian has been linked to clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks, but as of right now, our understanding remains that neither club have made contact for the player. Hincapie is expected to be a tough player to pry away from Leverkusen this season due to the fact that they’re already expected to sell Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich. Alonso would like to keep some of the side he did so well with last season, and Hincapie is someone the club would not part ways with for a cheap price.
Chelsea Yet To Contact Hincapie:
Chelsea are anticipated to sign another defender this season, and have already made some strides in the market in recent weeks to improve their squad under Enzo Maresca. Tosin Adarabioyo was brought in on a free transfer despite having interest from Manchester United among other clubs, and Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has also been added to the list, signing for a fee of £30m.
More signings are expected in the coming weeks, but as of now, the groundwork is not being done to bring Hincapie into the club. That doesn’t rule out the player joining the Blue’s in this window, rather simply that he’s not a pressing target for those working at Chelsea at this moment.
There is no reported release clause in the contract of the 22-year-old, but it’s expected to take a fee of over £50m to even make Bayer Leverkusen consider coming to the negotiation table.
