SOURCES: Chelsea Expected To Win Race For Gabriel Mec Despite United Links

Chelsea are expected to land Gabriel Mec from Gremio in the coming days, despite reports from Brazil suggesting Manchester United are likely to make an offer. The Blue’s lead the race significantly, and are closing in on a deal for the 16-year-old, who will become the next big South American signing by the club after Estevao.

The player is open to joining Chelsea, and they are now trying to reach an agreement with Gremio. Manchester United have been scouting the South American market more prominently in recent months, but their interest in Mec is not understood to be advanced at this stage.

Chelsea Lead Mec Race

We understand the possibility of the player joining Chelsea is currently significant, with a deal expected to get done unless something significant changes in the coming negotiations. Enzo Maresca’s side decided to enter into negotiations after getting the green light on the player side in recent days.

United are interested in another South American talent, whom we will reveal on the AttackingFootball page in the coming days. Mec will remain in Brazil until he turns 18, meaning he won’t feature for Chelsea’s first team until at least 2026.

Borussia Dortmund have also been reported to have shown an interest in the 16-year-old, but all roads currently point towards Stamford Bridge. Gremio want €20m, which is a fee Chelsea is yet to reach, but there is an expectation an agreement will be forged somewhere in the middle.
