AS Roma Sign In-Demand Forward for €30.5 Million

27-year-old Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk has joined AS Roma from Girona on a five-year contract that will run until 2029. The deal is worth €30.5 million.

Dovbyk has also been subject to interest from Atletico Madrid in this summer transfer window but Los Rojiblancos refused to pay what Girona wanted. Signing the La Liga top scorer is a coup for the new Roma ownership under American businessman Dan Friedkin. Dovbyk will replace Romelu Lukaku, who returned to his parent club, Chelsea.

AS Roma’s New Striker’s Career So Far:

The Ukrainian striker started his career at the now-defunct Ukrainian club OPFK Cherkashchyna. After that, the 27-year-old moved to Dnipro, Ukraine. During his time at Dnipro, he was sent out on loan multiple times to Romanian club Zaria Balti. Dnipro then sold him in 2018 to Danish club FC Midtjylland, where he won the Danish League twice. He returned to Ukraine in 2020 to join SC Dnipro-1.

After returning to Ukraine in 2020, Dovbyk’s career started to take off. In his stint with Dnipro-1, he played in 86 games, scoring 54 goals and assisting 14. His performances earned him a move to Girona, where he played for one season. Dovbyk’s performances helped Girona reach the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history, as he scored 24 goals and assisted eight times in 36 La Liga games.
