SOURCES: Manchester United Are Not Working On The Signing Of PSG Striker Huko Ekitike
Manchester United have been linked with a move for PSG striker Hugo Ekitike in the last couple of hours, as the French club are looking to find a solution in the final hours of the window for the player. The Red Devils have been linked with signing a striker on loan for the majority of the window, but up until now are yet to make a move for any player to fill the void left by the injured Anthony Martial.
United had previous interest in the French forward before he signed for PSG back in 2022 while he was at Stade Reims. The club admired the player internally, but never made a formal approach for his services before his move to the Ligue 1 club.
He has struggled for game time since joining the French champions and they currently feel like a loan move is the best option for him in the final days of the window. They are currently trying to find a club to sign him within the last 48 hours of the window according to Fabrizio Romano, but Manchester United will not be one of those clubs.
United Not In For Ekitike:
We understand Manchester United are not working on the signing of Hugo Ekitike from PSG before the end of the transfer window. United have their hands tied due to FFP regulations at present, and Erik ten Hag has already declared that the club looked into the market and decided there was nothing they could do in the January window.
Ekitike is very likely to leave PSG on loan in the coming hours, but Manchester United will not be his destination. INEOS are putting full focus on the summer transfer window at the club, with a complete reshuffle expected when the time comes.
German side Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in the 21-year-old and have already sent loan offers to try and sign him. There was no agreement between the clubs three days ago, but things may change with the deadline drawing ever so close.
United’s Striker Search
The Red Devils have been linked with various players throughout the window but their main target was always Serhou Guirassy, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano. The striker’s involvement in the AFCON competition made it difficult for United to make a make, and his release clause was also something the Manchester club could not afford within the January window. It may be something that’s revisited in the summer.
Joshua Zirkzee is also likely to be a name to keep an eye on when it comes to United’s targets up front. A striker will be a position they look to strengthen when the window opens, and the Bologna forward is on the club’s list. Arsenal have also taken a keen eye on the former Bayern Munich forward, who has risen to prominence under Thiago Motta this season in the Serie A.
Options For The Season:
Erik ten Hag will now be left short for the remainder of the campaign when it comes to his striking options. Anthony Martial is set to miss 10 weeks through injury, meaning Rasmus Hojlund is the only recognised striker still at the club. Marcus Rashford will have to play up front if the Danish forward needs a rest, but other than that it’s a bleak situation for the Dutch manager.
A crisis could see United dip into the youth academy, with Gabriele Biancheri or Ethan Wheatley the two most likely candidates. Shola Shoretire has also remained at the club for the remainder of the season. Charlie McNeill could also be an option the club look to utilize, after recently returning from a loan spell at Stevenage.
