SOURCES: Manchester United Yet To Make Any Contact With Ajax For Brian Brobbey
Our sources at Attacking Football understand that Manchester United are yet to make any sort of contact with Ajax regarding Brian Brobbey as of yet. The Dutch striker has been the subject of speculation in the media when it comes to the Manchester club in recent days, but despite being interested in the player, United are yet to make any sort of move towards signing him.
Brobbey is a player Erik ten Hag is very familiar with, having managed him previously during his time with Ajax. The 21-year-old is having a fine season in a side that have struggled for large parts of the campaign, and there were always going to be links to United due to their search for a centre-forward. That search has now ended according to Erik ten Hag, who suggested United have no money to do business this month.
No Contact For Brobbey:
We understand no contact has been made by Manchester United to Ajax over the signing of Brian Brobbey at any stage so far despite speculation. The player is admired internally at the club, especially by Erik ten Hag, but it has stayed strictly as admiration so far. There is not expected to be any sort of contact in the remainder of the window.
With that being said, there is certainly interest from United in the player, and a summer move cannot be ruled out. INEOS are expected to spend big in the summer if the club can become aligned with FFP regulations, and Brobbey is the type of signing the new owners are anticipated to make. Young with a lot of potential, and could provide suitable cover for Rasmus Hojlund for a fairly reasonable fee.
Any signings within this window are now considered extremely unlikely, especially after Erik ten Hag’s comments in his pre-Newport County press conference today.
“I looked but there’s no space on FFP to do something about lack of quantity in striker position. Rashford can play, we have alternatives. It’s a gap in our squad, clear.”

Another Failed Eredevise Signing?
The United manager has been criticised for his continued desire to sign players from the Eredivisie. Antony is the one blob on Ten Hag’s recruitment table from the league that has severely backfired in regards to his fee, and many United fans are fearing another chapter in that story if they are to sign Brobbey in the summer.
The Dutch striker has 11 goals and four assists in 17 Eredivisie games this season, which is an impressive return in any league. In all competitions, his record extends to 15 goals in 24 games, with two of those goals coming in the Europa League. Brobbey has already outscored United’s current centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund this season, and also currently boasts a better record than the Danish striker did last season in the Serie A with Atalanta.
His stock decreased a lot during his 14-game stint with RB Leipzig in Germany, but the Amsterdam-born forward is still a very talented striker who could make a major difference in the current Manchester United setup.
Alternatives?
Manchester United are lacking in the striker department and it’s expected to become a priority for INEOS by the time the summer rolls around. Benjamin Sesko has a £43m release clause valid in the summer, and the club’s previous interest in his signature has been well documented. Victor Osimhen is expected to be out of reach, but Marcus Thuram from Inter Milan could be a name that pops up on the clubs’s radar again when the window opens.
A centre-back is the priority above all else, but don’t be surprised to see several positions being filled in United’s first window under competent ownership since 2005.
