Football fans love to reminisce about old players playing for their club. But what cult hero would each team want at their disposal right now? Also, who would we love to see partner up with current players in the current game at their old club?

20 Cult Heroes Each Club Would Love Back:

AFC Bournemouth: Jermain Defoe

With main man Dominic Solanke firing on all cylinders for the Cherries this season how good would it be to see him link up with known bagsman Jermaine Defoe at the Vitality stadium?

Arsenal: Thierry Henry

Arsenal are struggling for goals this season. Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus both seem to be having a competition to see who can be most inconsistent in front of goal. Thierry Henry up top in this Arsenal side would be lethal. That front three of Saka, Henry and Martinelli with Ødegaard supplying passes from midfield. Scary.

Aston Villa: Jack Grealish

The born Villa fan who is still adored by supporters he dazzled in front of for years would be a reunion of a lifetime if the Villa icon ever returned. His link-up play with Ollie Watkins and new signing Moussa Diaby could be exactly what The Villains need to cement their place as European football challengers.

Brentford: Ollie Watkins

Ivan Toney looks bound for the exit door at Brentford and moving on to bigger and brighter things amongst the best in the world. But how the Bees supporters would love to see the return of Championship hero Ollie Watkins. The new Aston Villa talisman was crucial for Brentford in the Championship and built the ground on which Ivan Toney thrived. If Toney were to stay and Brentford could bring back Watkins, would they have the best strike partnership in the League?

Brighton: Wayne Bridge

We know how crucial full-backs are to De Zerbi ball at Brighton. Need I say more than Pascal Gross at right back? But imagine Wayne Bridge bombing it down the left-hand flank for Brighton. Bridge lined out 42 times for the Seagulls, a decent player going forward and very solid defensively. Bridge battling Estupinan for the first-team position would be interesting. ]

Burnley: Kieran Trippier

Most Burnley fans would probably love to see current manager Vincent Kompany line out for the Clarets at this stage. However, the 4-time Premier League winner would love to have Newcastle and former Burnley player Kieran Trippier at his disposal. He is impeccable on the ball and would be a great experience for this very young Burnley squad.

Chelsea: Didier Drogba

Ah, Chelsea. The list of former Chelsea players that this current squad could do with is endless. Petr Cech, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Eden Hazard, and Gianfranco Zola would all pretty much walk into the current starting 11 at the peak of their careers. But one thing Chelsea needs more than anything is a powerhouse clinical No.9. Obviously, there is only one option. Didier Drogba. Strong, fast, hungry, powerful, immaculate finishing and deceivingly good on the ball. Jackson could learn a lot under the wing of someone like Drogba.

Crystal Palace: Ian Wright

Ian Wright back at Palace in the peak of his powers linking up with Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. The Eagles lack that cutting-edge up-top that Ian Wright could easily provide. Mind you, he might still be able to bag a few goals in the Prem even at his age now.

Everton: Gary Lineker

Most people would immediately be drawn to big Duncan Ferguson or Dixie Dean when thinking of players that Everton needs at the minute. Most people forget about Gary Lineker’s one season at Goodison Park. 35 goals in 41 appearances for the Toffees. The English forward could be an improvement on Domick Calvert-Lewin, but they could also form a wicked partnership.

Fulham: Bryan Ruiz

Fulham have had their fair share of cult heroes. But a common ‘streets won’t forget player’ who we would love to see back in the Premier League would be Bryan Ruiz. The Costa Rican midfielder was a joy to watch. Majestic close control with an ability to breeze past players. He was a joy to watch and would be incredible viewing in Marco Silva’s side.

Liverpool: Luis Suarez

A Uruguayan striker who is a bit of a headcase but can find the back of the net very consistently. No, not Darwin. Suarez would be a dream for this Liverpool side linking up with Salah and racing in behind onto Trent’s through balls. Would prime Suarez back at Liverpool propel the Reds to the title this season?

Luton Town: Brian Stein

Luton’s second-highest goal scorer in the post-war era. Not a common household name but one that Hatters fans would recognize and adore to be back in the squad. He would be a key cog under Rob Edwards in possibly keeping them in the Premier League this season, although they’re not doing too bad a job on that front as it is.

Manchester City: Brahim Diaz

It was very hard to find a player who used to play for City who would get back into this incredible side. But hear me out on this one. Brahim Diaz has been a particularly talented player for Los Blancos, having gotten game time due to injuries. He can play anywhere across the attacking midfield position and operate on both flanks. Pep loves a dynamic squad player, and returning to the Etihad for Diaz would not be the worst decision in his career.

Manchester United: Paul Scholes

Similar to Chelsea, United have a host of past players they could do with in their starting XI. With injuries to Mason Mount, Hanibal Mejbri on loan and a severe lack of leadership in the United midfield who better to bring back than Paul Scholes? Supplying the ball up top to Rasmus and Rashford and letting Bruno express himself further forward. United could do a lot worse than the 11-time League winner.

Newcastle United: Hatem Ben-Arfa

Now the obvious answer here is all-time top scorer Alan Shearer. But Newcastle have a suitable selection of attacking talent in Wilson and Isak. Bringing back the joy of watching Ben-Arfa would be glorious to see. Eddie Howe has a job to fix his attitude but picturing Ben-Arfa dancing around St. James Park would leave tears in Geordie’s eyes.

Nottingham Forest: John Terry

Yes, I am not joking, John Terry used to play for Nottingham Forest. Terry played 6 games for Forest in 2000 in the First Division. Seeing what he went on to do I am sure Forest would not snub their noses if prime John Terry came back to command the back line of Nottingham Forest.

Sheffield United: Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker would be a welcome homecoming for Sheffield fans. It is not the most outrageous shout ever either. With his career winding down at City and age catching up on him, why wouldn’t Walker return to his boyhood club? The 33-year-old could leave Manchester City in the summer and a transfer within that window is not out of the question in the slightest.

Tottenham Hotspur: Robbie Keane

Bringing back the Irish bagsman who made over 300 appearances for Spurs would be a welcome addition to Ange’s squad. Moving Son back out to the wing and letting Keane take that number 9 position ahead of Richarlison and new signing Timo Werner.

West Ham United: Paolo Di Canio

West Ham need a striker. Perfect, bringing back perhaps West Ham’s most famous player aside from Bobby Moore would be a treat to see in this West Ham squad. Hammers fans would pay a lot of money to see him re-create his famous volley.

Wolves: Steve Bull

The club’s top goal scorer of all time with 306 goals including 18 hat-tricks. Arguably one of the greatest strikers to step foot in the Midlands. Stephen George Bull MBE would be a welcome addition to Gary O’Neill’s squad.
