Who Could Manchester United Sign After Mathys Tel Deal Collapses?
Manchester United are expected to walk away from a deal for Mathys Tel, as INEOS and Ruben Amorim look to bolster the forward line before tomorrow’s deadline. Marcus Rashford’s departure as well as Antony’s means United are short up front, and with a loan deal for Tel now increasingly unlikely, there may be other avenues the club may have to venture down in order to get a deal done.
In regards to interest in player’s, Oscar Gloukh has been someone United have monitored for a long time, but a deal in January, especially so soon before the end of tomorrow, is unlikely. Gloukh would prioritize a move to United over any other club.
Who could United turn to?
One area the club has scouted for a long time is the Brazilian market, with Lorran Lucas being someone who has previously been on the agenda at the club. Lorran would be available for around £15m within this window, so if United are looking to do some quick business tomorrow for a player who can operate in the number ten positions, Lorran could be a good target to try and have a look at. Talks have previously taken place, but the deal was described as difficult back then, although certainly not impossible, with the attacking midfielder being available for around £15m.
Another player United admire in Brazil is Gabriel Mec. Mec was linked with Chelsea in the summer and a deal was nearly done, but since then the interest has faded. Mec is still interested in coming to England, but again, that’s a deal more likely for the summer as opposed to happening by tomorrow’s deadline. Christiantus Uche from Getafe is another player the club has on a list internally, as well as Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiakos. Uche is focused on the remainder of the campaign in Spain, and Kostoulas likewise with Olympiakos, so they are two names that can likely be crossed off the list for tomorrow’s deadline, but they are admired within the club.
Club need to replace Rashford
United are desperate for a forward player to join the club. Losing Rashford has left the frontline threadbare, and failure to reinforce before tomorrow will result in pressure building surrounding Amorim from now until the end of the season, as if it’s not already intense enough. Tel wanted to come, but Bayern’s difficulties in negotiations, preferring a permanent to a loan move, have complicated matters for United, who financially cannot compete right now.
The likes of Karim Konate have been monitored in the past, with several Premier League clubs interested in the Ivorian, but again, these contacts have happened in the past with the club in recent days putting all their emphasis on signing Mathys Tel, to no avail. Konate is currently out with a knee injury until the end of next season, making any present deal for the forward impossible. Alejandro Garnacho is anticipated to remain at the club despite interest from Chelsea, but in regards to Chelsea, Christopher Nkunku may end up being United’s savior. The club has well-documented interest in the player, and he is one of the names, along with Joao Felix, that could leave Chelsea in the coming days.
Can’t afford a panic buy
There was interest from Matias Soule in the summer in regards to joining United, with the club aware the player would have joined Manchester United over his move to Roma at the time. The player dreamed of joining the Red’s in the summer, but the club decided not to make a move, instead sealing his transfer to Roma by the end of the window.
Julio Enciso was rumored to have been approached by Manchester United prior to his loan move to Ipswich Town earlier this month, but despite interest in the player dating back for some time, AttackingFootball understands that is not true. The player was convinced by Kieran McKenna some time ago, and United never made an approach in the manner many reported they did.
United will have to be mindful not to panic buy, as they risk making the same mistakes they made in the past under the Glazer ownership, which is the main reason they are in the current mess they are in now, with their seventh home defeat under Ruben Amorim alone coming in today’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. It’s a big 24 hours for Manchester United.
