Their Recent History
The 03/04 campaign saw Norwich win the First Division title and returned to the top flight for the first time since 1995.However they were relegated straight back down and finished in ninth place in The Championship in the 05/06 season.In 2009 Norwich were relegated to League one they appointed Paul Lambert as their new manager and he led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions.The club finished in 12th place in their first season back in the Premier League.They were relegated back to the Championship after finishing 18th in the 2013–14 season and Chris Hughton was sacked,Alex Neil led Norwich to victory in the 2015 championship play-off final secured an immediate return to the top division of English football. This was only temporary relief, as at the end of the next season they were relegated again to play the 2016–17 season in the Championship.In May 2017, the club appointed German coach Daniel Farke as head coach.In Farke’s first season, Norwich finished in 14th place. Despite a slow start, the following season was far more successful and the team spent most of the season at the top of the table – helped on by top scorer Teemu Pukki. Following a 2–1 win over Blackburn Rovers, the club was promoted back to the Premier League after a three-year absence as Championship winners. However, Norwich were once again relegated back down to the Championship after just a single season back in the top flight, becoming the first team in Premier League history to be relegated five times from the division.
in February 2008, Bournemouth were forced into administration, suffering a ten-point deduction which put them in relegation trouble. Bournemouth had debts of around £4 million and almost went out of business completely. The off-field uncertainty continued throughout the season, with only one, ultimately unsuccessful, bid for the club accepted, and the club ended the season being relegated to League Two.In the 08/09 season Former player Eddie Howe took over as manager with the club still ten points adrift at the bottom of the league and initially on a caretaker basis, becoming the youngest manager in the Football League at the age of 31. in the final home game of the season, the Cherries guaranteed their Football League status by beating Grimsby Town 2–1 with a winning goal ten minutes from time by Bournemouth’s Steve Fletcher, Howe’s first full season in charge brought success as Bournemouth finished second in League Two to earn promotion with two games to spare. Howe subsequently left the club for Burnley during the following season but he returned as manager in 2012 and they achieved promotion to the Championship , returning to the second-tier of English football for the first time since 1990.They spent most of the 2014-15 season near the top of the table, and a 3–0 win away at Charlton Athletic on the final day of the season was enough to clinch the Championship title and a first-ever promotion to the top flight of English football.Despite some slow starts and injury problems Bournemouth Survived four seasons in the Premier League finishing 16th,9th,12th,and 14th before being relegated in the 19/20 season in August 2020 Eddie Howe left the club by mutual consent after 8 years in charge.
After beating champions Manchester City at Carrow Road early in the season there was reason for optimism but it turned out to be a disaster for the Canaries,Norwich finished bottom of the Premier League last season with 5 wins 6 draws and 27 losses accumulating just 21 points the 7th lowest in Premier League history.They conceded 75 goals the worst in the league by 8 and scored just 26 the worst in the league by 5,on a -49 Goal difference the 6th worst in Premier League history.Teemu Pukki (11) and Todd Cantwell (7) accounted for 18 of their 26 goals and kept just 5 clean sheets all season.
It was heartbreak for Bournemouth last season as they were relegated by a single point they finished on 34 points after 9 wins 7 draws and 22 defeats just one point behind Aston Villa.They scored 40 goals which ranked 14th in the League but it was the other end where Bournemouth suffered most conceding 65 goals the third worst in the League and only kept 4 clean sheets.They picked up 21 points at home and 13 away.Callum Wilson was there top scorer with 8 goals followed by Harry Wilson (7) and Josh King and Lys Mousset both on 6.
It’s a stark contrast for Norwich this year as they sit top of the championship with 47 points,They’ve won 14 out of their 23 games so far suffering just 4 defeats only Bournemouth and Brentford have lost less games (3) In 13 of the last 16 seasons, the side top after 23 games has gone on to gain automatic promotion,They’ve Conceded 20 goals the 5th best in the league but they have scored 31 goals which is the lowest of the past 16 teams to lead at the halfway stage by some distance if they want to be promoted to the Premier league for a record 5th time they have to start finding the back of the net more.Norwich have created 285 chances in 23 games,After Pukki and Buendia their next highest scorer is Vrancic on 3.Norwich enjoyed a 10 game unbeaten run from October 17th until the start of December when Luton ended it.They need to concentrate more from the start as 6 out of their 20 goals conceded have come inside the first 20 minutes.Their home form has been brilliant losing just once which was against Bournemouth back in September the canaries have collected 25 points from a possible 36 at Carrow Road.Max Aarons and Oliver Skipp have featured in every league game this season with Teemu Pukki missing just two.
The Cherries sit 3rd in the league with a game in hand which if they win will take them into 2nd They’ve scored 37 goals which only Blackburn have bettered (38) and they have the 3rd best defensive record in the league conceding just 18 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets.Their home form has been key as they have picked up 23/30 at home compared to 18/36 away.Jason Tindall worked with Eddie Howe for 11 years and has continued on the attractive style of play,Bournemouth have suffered the least amount of defeats in the league with 3,They average 14 shots per match and have scored first in 14 out of their 22 games.Dominic Solanke has made the most appearances for Bournemouth in the league this season with 22 followed by Asmir Begovic and Steve Cook on 21
Teemu Pukki – There is one stat which proves his value to Norwich and it’s this.Pukki has scored 11 goals this season averaging a goal every 158 minutes and in the eight games he has found the net in Norwich have won 6 and drawn 2,When Pukki scores Norwich don’t lose,Simple.
Emiliano Buendia – His form has been so good this year he is being strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in January.It is absolutely vital that Norwich keep hold of their Argentine wizard,He’s got 7 goals and 6 assists this season and is on course to break his 20 goal contributions in the 18/19 season.
Tim Krul – It may be strange to pick a goalkeeper but his importance to Norwich can’t be underestimated.The Canaries have conceded 20 goals this season and 12 of them came when Krul was out injured for nine games,He has only conceded 8 goals in 14 matches and has kept 6 clean sheets,Keeping him fit will be huge for Norwich in the second half of the season.
Dominic Solanke – The only player to Feature in every league game this season and he is enjoying the most prolific spell in his career with 9 goals and 4 assists,If he can hit 20 goals this season the cherries will have a great chance of being promoted.
Junior Stanislas – He has only played 17 games but still has 7 goals and 2 assists,He’s played 1250 minutes and is averaging a goal every 180 minutes,He managed 12 goal contributions in the 16/17 season and with 9 already he could well smash that record by some distance
Steve Cook – Been at the club since 2011 and has over 350 appearances for Bournemouth the 29 year old is proving his worth now he is the leader at the back and organising Kelly and Simpson around him he has played 1869 minutes and his side have the third best defensive record in the league and kept 10 clean sheets.
The Championship is a marathon not a sprint,It is extremely tough to stay consistent over 46 games every team will have ups and downs but it’s which teams cope best with the tough peroids will come out on top,One of the hardest divisions to get out of it’s why we all love it.Swansea,Brentford,Reading and Watford will all fancy their chances of promotion but the Cherries and the Canaries are both in strong positions to bounce straight back to the big time.
