Donie Never Failed To Shine

Donie Shine,A legend of the game not only in Roscommon but all over the country has been forced to retire due to ongoing injury concerns.He burst onto the scene in 2006 helping Roscommon to their first minor all-ireland title in 55 years and just their fourth in their history.They beat Kerry in the final after a replay Donie kicked 0-6 in the drawn match and he got the insurance point in injury time the second day out.

in 2010 he helped the Roscommon U-21 team to a Connacht U-21 Football Championship after a 1-06 to 0-04 win over Sligo.Later that year he wrote his name in Roscommon folklore as he scored 0-10 including a last minute free as Roscommon defeated Sligo in the Connacht senior final.

While injury marred the rest of his Roscommon career he managed to pick up another Connacht medal in 2016 versus Galway in what would be his last appearance in the primrose and blue.

Donie played his club football with Clann Na nGael they are the most successful club in Roscommon winning 21 senior football titles they have also won seven Connacht club titles,An achievement which was only recently surpassed by Corofin.Having not won a Roscommon title since 1996 Donie helped Clann Na nGael get back to the top of club football in Roscommon in 2015 when he scored 1-3 in the final against Padraig Pearses and again in 2018 when he scored 1-7 and captained his club to their 21st title.

Unfortunately at the age of just 31 he has been forced to retire due to injury,All good things must come to an end and nothing lasts forever but Donie Shine will always be a hero in Roscommon he scored 4-423 in 72 appearances for the Rossies.He helped deliver their first minor title in 55 years,Their first Connacht senior title in 9 years in 2010 with a man of the match display scoring 10 points.

He helped his Club Clann Na nGael win their first county title in 19 years in 2015 and captained them to success in 2018 scoring 2-10 across both finals and He won the clubs player of the year award a record 5 times.
